On 1 November, Domino’s introduced its limited-time-only ‘World 9 Cheese’ quattro pizza – a pizza which utilizes 9 premium cheeses from all over the world, including notably Egmont cheese from New Zealand, Oak Smoked Cheddar from the UK, Parmigiano-Reggiano from Italy, and Hokkaido Camembert from Japan. Divided into four sections inspired by international flavors, including a ‘cheeseburger’ featuring British Cheddar and a ‘meat pie’ using New Zealand Egmont, Domino’s says the pizza is ‘irresistible for cheese lovers’, and hopes it will introduce Japanese gastronomes to some of the world’s most delicious cheeses.
Unafraid of causing a stir with its bold flavors, Domino’s invited two renowned international chefs based in Tokyo to sample its latest creation. Both chefs were initially skeptical about the ‘World 9 Cheese’. Ian Gibbins, owner-operator of the gourmet British pie store Swan & Lion called it ‘crazy’, while Stefano Fastro, owner-chef of Italian restaurant Stefano Kagurazaka reacted with a stunned ‘mamma mia’ when told the pizza featured nine different kinds of cheeses.
Will Domino’s offend these two authentic chefs with its cheeky take on traditional flavours? Or will its cheese expertise shine through and impress the best?
Watch the video to find out.
‘World 9 Cheese’ is available nationwide until 28 November.
